What Are Stained Glass Jobs at Summer Camp?
Stained Glass Jobs at Summer Camps
Stained glass jobs at summer camps are a rare and beautiful niche for working stained glass artists, studio teachers, and craft pros who want to share this gorgeous art form with eager young makers. From specialty fine arts residential camps with full glass studios to traditional sleepaway camps offering occasional stained glass electives, instructors get to teach a uniquely tactile and patient craft throughout the summer.
As a stained glass instructor at an overnight camp, you’ll teach glass cutting, foiling, soldering, and assembly while supporting campers through panels, suncatchers, and small decorative pieces. You’ll manage tools, glass inventory, soldering stations, and safety protocols. Many co-ed residential camps blend stained glass into broader fine arts or jewelry programs, giving multi-discipline studio instructors a varied and rewarding summer.
What does a stained glass instructor at summer camp do?
You’ll teach cutting, foiling, soldering, and assembly while supporting camper panels and projects. Most sleepaway camps with stained glass programs run daily studio sessions throughout the summer camp season.
What background works best for stained glass jobs at sleepaway camps?
Working stained glass artist experience, formal glass arts training, or fine arts backgrounds are ideal. Comfort with kids and a strong sense of studio safety matter most at residential camps with active glass programs.
Do summer camps have full stained glass studios?
Specialty fine arts residential camps may have full studios with multiple cutters, grinders, soldering stations, and ventilation. Traditional sleepaway camps usually have more limited setups. Confirm equipment in your interview.
What does the pay look like for stained glass jobs at summer camps?
Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Overnight camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which adds significant value to the overall summer camp package beyond the base figure.
Is stained glass usually combined with other crafts?
Often yes. Many co-ed residential camps blend stained glass with jewelry, fine arts, or fabrication programs. Multi-discipline studio instructors are especially valued at sleepaway camps with rich creative arts schedules.
