What Are Pickleball Jobs at Summer Camp?
Pickleball Jobs at Summer Camps in the USA
Pickleball jobs at summer camps are one of the fastest-growing specialty roles in the camp world. As America’s fastest-growing sport, pickleball has exploded onto sleepaway camp activity rotations and specialty residential camps alike. From traditional sleepaway camps adding pickleball to their tennis programs to specialty pickleball camps running clinics and ladder play, instructors find inviting teaching environments where they can grow the game with kids throughout the summer.
As a pickleball instructor at an overnight camp, you’ll teach grips, dinks, drives, serves, and game strategy while running drills, scrimmages, and intra-camp tournaments. You’ll work across age groups and skill levels, from first-time players to competitive juniors. Many co-ed residential camps run pickleball alongside tennis and racquet sports, giving multi-discipline coaches a packed and varied summer.
What does a pickleball instructor at summer camp do?
You’ll teach grips, dinks, drives, serves, and strategy while running drills, scrimmages, and tournaments. Most sleepaway camps with pickleball programs include daily play throughout the summer camp season.
What background works best for pickleball jobs at sleepaway camps?
Competitive pickleball or racquet sports experience, PPR or IPTPA pickleball certifications, and prior coaching at the youth or club level are all great fits. Comfort with kids and across skill levels matters most at residential camps.
Do summer camps have dedicated pickleball courts?
Many do — and the number is growing every season. Specialty residential pickleball camps often maintain multi-court complexes, while traditional sleepaway camps may use converted tennis courts or shared sport courts.
What does the pay look like for pickleball jobs at summer camps?
Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Overnight camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which adds meaningful value to the overall summer camp package beyond the base figure.
Is pickleball usually combined with other racquet sports?
Often yes. Many co-ed residential camps blend pickleball with tennis and racquet sports programs. Multi-discipline racquet coaches are especially valued at sleepaway camps with broad athletics offerings.
