Photos Jobs at Sleepaway Camps
Photos jobs at summer camps cover the visual heartbeat of every season. From classic candid moments at traditional sleepaway camps to high-energy color war madness at large co-ed residential camps, photo staff capture the memories that families revisit for years. Whether you’re a working photographer, photography student, or experienced hobbyist, summer camp photo work blends creative storytelling with daily production rhythm in a uniquely fun setting.
As a photo staffer at an overnight camp, you’ll shoot daily activities across the property, cull and edit images, and upload to parent platforms each evening. You’ll often support yearbook content, slideshows, and social media. Many co-ed residential camps run integrated photo and video departments where shooters collaborate with editors, content creators, and admin throughout the summer to maintain a consistent camp visual identity.
What does a photos staffer at summer camp do?You’ll shoot, cull, edit, and upload daily images to parent platforms while supporting yearbook, slideshows, and social content. Most sleepaway camps publish photos daily throughout the summer camp season.
What background works best for photo jobs at sleepaway camps?Photography degrees, working pro experience, or strong event/kids portfolios are ideal. Comfort with fast Lightroom workflows and large daily turnaround volume matters most at residential camps.
How many photos do camp staff typically upload daily? It varies, but hundreds to a few thousand per day is common at busy residential camps. Most overnight camps use parent platforms like CampInTouch, Waldo, or Bunk1 to publish daily photos throughout the summer.
What does the pay look like for photo jobs at summer camps?Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and portfolio. Sleepaway camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which makes the overall summer camp package noticeably more valuable than the base figure.
Do photo staff teach campers?Often yes. Many co-ed residential camps fold a camper photography elective into the photo staff’s responsibilities, giving instructors a chance to mentor young photographers alongside their core shooting duties at the sleepaway camp.
