Hockey Jobs at Sleepaway Camps
Hockey jobs at summer camps are a fantastic fit for college players, junior players, and youth hockey coaches who want to share the game with the next generation. From traditional sleepaway camps offering ball hockey and floor hockey rotations to specialty ice hockey residential camps with on-site rinks, hockey staff find rewarding teaching environments across every variation of the sport throughout the summer.
As a hockey coach at an overnight camp, you’ll teach skating (where applicable), stickhandling, passing, shooting, and positioning while running drills, scrimmages, and intra-camp games. You’ll often help organize tournaments, lead practice plans, and coach in cross-camp leagues. Many co-ed residential camps run hockey alongside other team sports in their gym or rink rotation, giving multi-sport coaches a packed and exciting summer.
What does a hockey coach at summer camp do?You’ll teach stickhandling, passing, shooting, and positioning while running drills, scrimmages, and games. Specialty ice hockey residential camps add skating instruction at the on-site rink throughout the summer camp season.
What background works best for hockey jobs at sleepaway camps?College, junior, or competitive youth hockey playing experience and prior coaching at the youth or school level are highly valued. Specialty ice hockey camps often prefer coaches with NCAA, junior, or pro backgrounds.
Do summer camps run ice hockey programs? Some specialty residential ice hockey camps run on-site or partnered rink programs. Traditional sleepaway camps typically focus on ball hockey, floor hockey, or street hockey. Confirm rink access during your interview.
What does the pay look like for hockey jobs at summer camps?Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Overnight camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which adds meaningful value to the overall summer camp package beyond the base figure.
Can current college hockey players coach at summer camps?Yes — many specialty residential camps actively recruit current collegiate hockey players. Just verify NIL and NCAA compliance with your athletic department before accepting any paid camp coaching role at a sleepaway camp.
