What Are STEM Jobs at Summer Camp?
STEM Jobs at Summer Camps in the USA
STEM jobs at summer camps are at the heart of the booming science-and-tech camp movement. From traditional sleepaway camps adding STEM electives to their daily programs to specialty residential STEM camps running full science, engineering, and technology tracks, STEM instructors find rich teaching environments throughout the summer where they can shape the next generation of scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers.
As a STEM instructor at an overnight camp, you’ll teach science experiments, engineering challenges, coding fundamentals, math concepts, and applied technology. You’ll plan project-based curriculum, run hands-on labs and builds, and partner with robotics, coding, 3-D design, and game design staff on integrated programming. Many co-ed residential camps run robust STEM programs that combine multiple disciplines under one creative roof, giving multi-discipline instructors a packed and varied summer.
You’ll teach science experiments, engineering challenges, coding, and applied tech through project-based lessons. Most sleepaway camps with STEM programs run daily classes throughout the summer camp season.
STEM teaching, engineering, computer science, or science research backgrounds are all great fits. Comfort with kids and inquiry-style teaching matter most at residential camps with deep STEM programs.
Specialty STEM residential camps often maintain dedicated lab spaces with microscopes, robotics kits, 3D printers, and basic engineering tools. Traditional sleepaway camps may run STEM out of shared classroom spaces. Equipment varies.
Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Overnight camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which makes the overall summer camp package noticeably more valuable than the base figure.
Often yes. Many co-ed residential camps blend STEM with robotics, coding, 3-D design, and game development. Multi-discipline STEAM instructors are especially valued at sleepaway camps with deep technology offerings.
