Jewelry Jobs at Overnight Camps
Jewelry jobs at summer camps are a treasure for working jewelers, metalsmiths, and craft instructors who want to share their love of small, wearable art with eager young makers. From classic beading and friendship bracelets at traditional sleepaway camps to silversmithing and enameling at specialty fine arts residential camps, jewelry instructors deliver some of the most beloved take-home projects of the summer.
As a jewelry instructor at an overnight camp, you’ll teach beading, wire wrapping, metalwork, soldering, and basic stone setting depending on the program. You’ll manage tools, supplies, and safety procedures while guiding campers through projects ranging from simple bracelets to small fine silver pieces. Many co-ed residential camps blend jewelry into broader fine arts or fabric arts programs, giving multi-discipline craft instructors plenty of variety throughout the summer.
What does a jewelry instructor at summer camp do?You’ll teach beading, wire wrapping, metalwork, and basic stone setting while guiding individual camper projects. Most sleepaway camps with jewelry programs run daily studio time throughout the summer camp season.
What background works best for jewelry jobs at sleepaway camps?Studio jewelry, metalsmithing, or strong craft and design backgrounds are ideal. Working jewelers, MFA students, and craft school instructors all fit naturally at residential camps with active arts programs.
Do summer camps have full jewelry studios?Specialty fine arts residential camps may have full studios with torches, anvils, and benches. Traditional sleepaway camps often run beading-focused programs with simpler supplies. Confirm studio scope in your interview.
What does the pay look like for jewelry jobs at summer camps?Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Overnight camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which adds significant value to the overall summer camp package beyond the base figure.
Is jewelry usually combined with other crafts?Often yes. Many co-ed residential camps blend jewelry with fabric arts, fine arts, or arts and crafts. Multi-discipline craft instructors are especially valued at sleepaway camps building rich creative arts schedules.
