Roller hockey jobs at summer camps are a fantastic fit for inline hockey players, ice hockey crossover athletes, and coaches who love the fast pace of inline play. From traditional sleepaway camps with dedicated roller rinks to specialty residential hockey camps offering serious training, roller hockey instructors lead one of the fastest and most exciting team sports of every summer at camp.
As a roller hockey coach at an overnight camp, you’ll teach skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, and positioning while running drills, scrimmages, and intra-camp games. You’ll manage equipment — sticks, balls or pucks, goalie gear — and uphold strict safety protocols. Many co-ed residential camps run roller hockey alongside ice hockey, ball hockey, and floor hockey programs, giving multi-discipline coaches a packed and varied summer.
What does a roller hockey coach at summer camp do?
You’ll teach skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, and positioning while running drills and games. Most sleepaway camps with roller hockey programs run daily play throughout the summer camp season.
What background works best for these jobs at sleepaway camps?
Inline hockey playing experience, ice hockey crossover backgrounds, or competitive youth hockey coaching are all great fits. CPR/First Aid is standard at every residential camp running active roller hockey programs.
Do summer camps have full roller rinks?
Many specialty hockey residential camps maintain full outdoor or indoor roller rinks. Traditional co-ed sleepaway camps may use sport courts or converted tennis courts with portable boards. Equipment varies widely.
What does the pay look like for roller hockey jobs at summer camps?
Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Sleepaway camps include room, board, and laundry alongside salary, which adds meaningful value to the overall summer camp package beyond the base figure.
Is roller hockey usually combined with other hockey roles?
Often yes. Many co-ed residential camps blend roller hockey with ice, ball, and floor hockey programs. Multi-discipline hockey coaches are especially valued at sleepaway camps with deep hockey offerings.
