An adventure staffer typically leads hikes, climbs, paddles, mountain bike rides, and overnight expeditions while teaching Leave No Trace, wilderness first aid basics, route planning, and group safety. You’ll work closely with nature, climbing, and outdoor education teams to weave adventure into broader programming. Many residential camps also offer adventure as a daily elective on the camp property itself, providing variety between in-camp teaching and offsite trip leading.
The position is generally a full-summer commitment with on-site housing, meals, and laundry included. Many adventure programs also provide gear stipends or pro deals through outdoor brand partnerships, which adds real value beyond the base summer camp pay. Wilderness First Aid is commonly required, with WFR strongly preferred for trip-leading roles. Activity-specific certifications like AMGA SPI, ACA paddling certs, and NOLS or Outward Bound backgrounds are highly valued.
