As a mom in her late 30s with two kids who have attended sleepaway camp for the past two years, I’ve experienced firsthand the incredible benefits of summer camp. The friendships my children have developed, the new skills they’ve picked up, and the boost in their confidence have been remarkable. Their joy and happiness are contagious, and I want to share my experiences to help other parents who might be on the fence about sending their kids to camp. Here are some common concerns parents have, along with some of my personal insights.

Safety and Security Concerns

One of my biggest anxieties before sending my kids to camp was safety. I wondered, “Can I trust the staff? Will my children be safe away from home?” At [a top summer camp in upstate New York], the staff-to-camper ratio was low, ensuring that each child received ample supervision. All leadership staff were certified in first aid and CPR, and the camp had strict protocols for emergencies. My fears were quickly alleviated when I saw how professionally the camp was run.
