JOB DESCRIPTION: Are you ready to make a lifelong impact on campers’ lives, while gaining real world experience? We take great pride in providing an unbelievable summer for hundreds of campers every year. With over 60 different activities at camp, we are looking to hire highly skilled individuals to be teachers and coaches in those areas. Each specialist will work in their area 5 hours a day, teaching campers ranging in ages 8-15. Specialist will make lesson plans, create fun drills and games, practice schedules, and anything else to keep their program innovative and fresh. As a sports specialist you will also get the opportunity to coach teams and referee/umpire games. The rest of the day is spent as a bunk counselor, watching over and building relationships with your campers.

ROLES AVAILABLE: Baseball, Softball, Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Roller Hockey, Golf, & Lacrosse.

We are also searching for area directors who will oversee a program and live in private staff housing. Salary range will be different than a specialist

SALARY & BENEFITS: $2,400- $3,200 + Room & Board, Meals, and a Travel Stipend

We conduct a weeklong orientation to prepare you for your role. When not teaching lessons, you will get to experience being a bunk counselor. Each bunk will have 7-10 campers and 2-3 staff members. Your responsibilities include watching over and being a big brother/sister figure to your your campers, while most importantly playing camp and having fun with them every day!

QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for individuals who are skilled and passionate in their sport. Teaching or coaching experience preferred.

• have completed at least 1 year of college prior to arrival at camp
• remain flexible and adaptable
• have the ability to be on your feet for over 12 hrs a day
• have a passion working with and coaching children

Are you ready for an amazing summer experience full of memories that will last a lifetime? We are hiring general counselors to be a part of our premier residential summer camp. We are seeking a responsible, enthusiastic, and energetic person who wants to spend their summer acting as a mentor and role model for kids. The physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of our youngest campers, ages 7 to 10, is the responsibility of the counselors. For the first time, many of these kids are living apart from their parents. As a counselor, it is your duty to accompany the campers to and from activities, ensuring that they arrive on time, are dressed appropriately, and have the necessary gear. You’ll be actively involved in all activities and traditions at camp. Managing problems that occur with your campers at everyday activities will be your responsibility. You will be the first point of contact for your campers. You get to experience all the many elements of camp as a summer camp counselor. Anyone who enjoys dealing with young children, is vivacious, kind, and compassionate, and wants the chance to learn about all aspects of camp is a great fit for this role.

You will work, play, and live in a structured outdoor environment as a summer camp counselor, emphasizing a sense of fun, family, friendship, and belonging.

General Counselor Responsibilities

• Ensure campers are safe at ALL times
• Participation in staff orientation and training before camp begins
• Plan or manage activity schedules for groups of campers
• Lead recreational and educational activities
• Being a role model for children
• Guide children through their summer activities in a positive, fun, and healthy manner
• Supervise and lend assistance to campers, with an emphasis on safety
• Assisting campers in personal care and hygiene
• Carrying out duties assigned by supervising staff
• Enjoying summer camp!

General Counselor Requirements

• Must be available to work from early-mid June through mid-late August, depending on the camp program hiring
• At least one year of college, high school diploma
• A love for children
• Leadership: Counselors must be able to guide children through their summer camp experience in a healthy and positive way
• Flexible attitude with strong skills working in a team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Friendly, empathetic attitude
• First aid- and CPR certifications are a big plus
• Must be able to pass a drug and/or background test according to camp policies and local laws
• Experience and passion for caring for children and young adults

Located in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Pocono Mountains, Island Lake Camp is a coed sleep-away camp established in 1986. We feature a 4-week and a 3-week session for our campers who range in age from 7-17. At Island Lake, we emphasize individualized programming to allow each camper to have their ideal summer experience.

Our counselors live in a comfortable, modern cabin with approximately 12 campers and two other counselors. Each of our bunk counselors is also a specialist who teaches in one of the 17 different Departments offered at Island Lake. We provide full room and board, including snacks, meals, laundry service, and travel reimbursement for everyone traveling to camp.

Staff at Island Lake come from countries worldwide, including Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Hungary, Poland, the United States, and more. As a staff member, they undergo an immersive orientation before the children arrive for the summer.

We offer paid internships in multiple fields including education, animal care, coaching, media, hospitality, event planning, food service, and the arts. Island Lake will work directly with your colleges and universities to ensure you get the credits you deserve.
