Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Music Director to lead our music program for the summer. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about music education, performance, and mentoring young musicians in a fun, camp-based environment.
The Music Director plays a key role in shaping the musical culture of camp while helping campers build confidence, creativity, and a love for music.
Role Overview
As the Music Director, you will oversee all aspects of the camp’s music program, including instruction, rehearsals, performances, and special events. You’ll work with campers of varying ages and skill levels, leading group music activities and helping individuals grow as musicians while creating an inclusive and encouraging atmosphere.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead daily music instruction and group rehearsals
- Teach musical fundamentals such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and performance skills
- Organize ensembles, bands, or choirs based on camper interests and abilities
- Plan and direct performances, showcases, or camp events
- Encourage creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young musicians
- Manage music equipment and rehearsal spaces
- Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment
- Serve as a positive role model within the camp community
Age Requirement
- Must be 21 years or older by the start of camp
Required Experience
- Strong music background (performance, education, or direction experience)
- Experience teaching or leading music programs for children or teens preferred
- Ability to work with campers of varying skill levels and musical interests
Required Skills
- Required to be able to proficiently play a combination or guitar, bass, drums and piano
- Skilled at putting together a band, choir or collective group to perform
- Clear communication and instructional skills
- Creative leadership and program organization abilities
- Positive, encouraging teaching style
- Ability to manage groups in a fun camp setting
Certifications & Additional Requirements
- Video submission playing multiple instruments
- Ability to meet all camp background check and staff training requirements
