Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge are seeking certified Lifeguards to join our waterfront team for the summer. Lifeguards play a critical role in maintaining a safe, fun, and engaging aquatic environment for campers while supporting the overall rhythm of camp life.
This position is ideal for responsible, alert individuals who enjoy working with children and thrive in an active, outdoor setting.
Role Overview
As a Lifeguard, you will supervise campers during swim periods and waterfront activities, enforce safety rules, and respond quickly and calmly to any emergencies. You’ll work closely with waterfront leadership and fellow guards to ensure all swimming areas are well-managed and enjoyable for campers of all skill levels.
In addition to waterfront responsibilities, lifeguards are active members of the camp community and help support daily routines and programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise campers during swim sessions and waterfront activities
- Enforce all aquatic safety rules and procedures
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and rescues
- Monitor swimmer ability levels and maintain organized swim areas
- Communicate clearly with campers and staff during waterfront periods
- Assist waterfront leadership with setup, breakdown, and equipment care
- Serve as a positive role model throughout the camp day
Age Requirement
- Must be 18 years or older by the start of camp
Required Experience
- Previous lifeguarding experience at a pool, lake, or waterfront
- Experience supervising children or teens in an aquatic environment
- Comfort working in outdoor waterfront conditions
Required Skills
- Strong swimming ability and endurance
- Knowledge of waterfront safety and rescue techniques
- Clear communication and strong situational awareness
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
- Team-oriented attitude and professionalism
Certifications & Additional Requirements
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (required)
- CPR / First Aid certification
- Ability to meet all camp background check and staff training requirements
