Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge are seeking a Hockey Assistant Coach to support our hockey program for the summer. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong hockey background who enjoys coaching, mentoring, and working with young athletes in a camp environment.
This position focuses on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while helping create a structured and encouraging atmosphere both on and off the rink.
Role Overview
As the Hockey Assistant Coach, you will work closely with the Head Hockey Coach to assist with daily practices, drills, and games. You’ll help campers develop fundamental hockey skills, support individual and team growth, and contribute to a positive athletic experience that emphasizes effort, confidence, and fun.
In addition to coaching responsibilities, you will be an active member of the camp community and a positive role model for campers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Hockey Coach with daily practices and instruction
- Help teach fundamental hockey skills including skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting
- Support scrimmages, drills, and game play
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes
- Provide individualized feedback and skill support to campers
- Assist with equipment setup, organization, and care
- Serve as a positive role model on and off the rink
Age Requirement
- Must be 21 years or older by the start of camp
Required Experience
- Strong hockey background (playing and/or coaching experience)
- Experience working with children or teens preferred
- Ability to coach campers of varying ages and skill levels
Required Skills
- Solid understanding of hockey fundamentals and rules
- Clear communication and instructional ability
- Positive, encouraging coaching style
- Leadership and teamwork skills
- Ability to maintain structure in a fun camp environment
Certifications & Additional Requirements
- Coaching certifications are a plus but not required
- Ability to meet all camp background check and staff training requirements
- CPR / First Aid certification preferred
