Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge are seeking experienced and enthusiastic Climbing Instructors to join our Adventure Program for the summer.
This position combines hands-on climbing instruction with the meaningful responsibilities of camp life. Climbing Instructors spend their days teaching campers proper technique, safety, and confidence on our climbing wall and high elements, while serving as positive role models within the camp community.
Role Overview
As a Climbing Instructor, you will lead engaging, skill-based climbing sessions while helping campers build confidence, resilience, and teamwork. You will work closely with fellow adventure staff to ensure all activities are safe, age-appropriate, and fun, while participating fully in the daily rhythm of camp life.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead climbing and belaying instruction for campers of varying ages and skill levels
- Ensure all safety procedures, harness checks, and belay systems are followed consistently
- Supervise campers on climbing walls and adventure elements
- Encourage campers to challenge themselves in a supportive, confidence-building environment
- Maintain climbing equipment and assist with daily setup and breakdown
- Serve as a positive role model and supportive presence throughout the camp day
- Collaborate with adventure and leadership staff to deliver a high-quality program
Age Requirement
- Must be 18 years or older by the start of camp
Required Experience
- Active climber with 2+ years of climbing experience
- Prior experience instructing climbing or working in a climbing gym, outdoor program, or adventure setting
- Comfort working with children or teens in a supervised environment
Required Skills
- Proficiency in climbing and belaying techniques
- Strong understanding of climbing safety protocols
- Clear communication and leadership skills
- Calm, focused demeanor in high-energy environments
- Team-oriented mindset and positive attitude
Certifications & Additional Requirements
- Previous climbing instruction employment or documented climbing/belay training
- Ability to meet camp background check and staff training requirements
- CPR / First Aid certification preferred
