Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge are seeking a creative and skilled Ceramics Instructor to join our arts program for the summer. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with clay and helping campers explore creativity through hands-on ceramic projects in a fun camp environment.
The Ceramics Instructor plays an important role in teaching artistic techniques, encouraging self-expression, and creating meaningful creative experiences for campers.
Role Overview
As a Ceramics Instructor, you will lead ceramic arts sessions focused on hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and finishing techniques. You’ll guide campers of varying ages and experience levels while maintaining a safe, organized, and inspiring studio environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead daily ceramics instruction and hands-on projects
- Teach hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and firing techniques
- Supervise campers in the ceramics studio and ensure safety procedures are followed
- Encourage creativity, patience, and pride in finished work
- Manage studio setup, cleanup, and material organization
- Assist with kiln operation and maintenance as appropriate
- Serve as a positive role model within the camp community
Age Requirement
- Must be 18 years or older by the start of camp
Required Experience
- Experience working with ceramics or clay-based art
- Comfort teaching or guiding others through hands-on creative processes
- Experience working with children or teens preferred
Required Skills
- Knowledge of ceramic techniques and materials
- Ability to explain processes clearly and patiently
- Strong organization and studio management skills
- Creative, encouraging teaching style
- Attention to safety and detail in a studio environment
Certifications & Additional Requirements
- Studying for an Art degree or similar
- Can demonstrate a portfolio of work during the interview
- Ability to meet all camp background check and staff training requirements
