Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge are seeking a Basketball Assistant Coach to support our basketball program for the summer. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong basketball background who enjoys coaching, mentoring, and helping young athletes grow in a positive camp environment.
This position emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while contributing to a fun and structured athletic program.
Role Overview
As the Basketball Assistant Coach, you will work alongside the Head Basketball Coach to help run daily practices, drills, and games. You’ll assist with instruction, support camper development across age groups, and help foster an encouraging environment where campers can improve their skills and confidence on the court.
In addition to coaching duties, you will be an active and positive member of the camp community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Basketball Coach with daily practices and instruction
- Help teach fundamental basketball skills including shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense
- Support scrimmages, games, and skill-building activities
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes
- Provide individualized feedback and support to campers
- Assist with equipment setup, organization, and care
- Serve as a positive role model on and off the court
Age Requirement
- Must be 21 years or older by the start of camp
Required Experience
- Strong basketball background (playing and/or coaching experience)
- Experience working with children or teens preferred
- Ability to teach and motivate campers of varying skill levels
Required Skills
- Solid understanding of basketball fundamentals and rules
- Clear communication and instructional skills
- Positive, encouraging coaching style
- Leadership and teamwork abilities
- Ability to maintain structure in a fun, camp-style setting
Certifications & Additional Requirements
- Coaching certifications are a plus but not required
- Ability to meet all camp background check and staff training requirements
- CPR / First Aid certification preferred
