Camp Friendship is a residential summer camp in Virginia, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on 520 acres of rolling hills and scenic woods. Campers come to summer camp from Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, and we've even had International Campers from over 90 countries.
Since 1966 Camp Friendship has offered boys and girls, ages 7-16, an opportunity to experience the best summer possible. Increased self-esteem, making new friendships and gaining social competence, learning to work as part of a team, responsibility and building positive values are just some of the life skills gained from participating in Camp Friendship programs... and it's fun!
Summer Activities and Year Round Programs ranging from equestrian camp, Sports Clinics, and teen camp offer our camp families a well- rounded summer camp experience. Camp Friendship has been privately owned by the Ackenbom family since it's founding.
How We Accommodate International Campers
We individually customize each campers program to ensure the best possible experience. Our international campers and staff raise the flags of their respective countries during our camp flag raising ceremonies. This event is always a treat to see, countries from all over the world uniting in peace.
Special services are provided for our international campers:
• Transportation from and to Washington Dulles International Airport
• Assistance with camp programs selection
• Laundry and linens service at camp
• Safeguard of any valuables (passports, money, cell phones)
• Two-way communication between campers and their parents
Camp Friendship provides a great opportunity for those campers who do not speak English or don’t speak it well. We provide an immersive English speaking community where non-English speaking campers will quickly expand their English vocabulary. Camp Friendship believes that everyday communication through games and activities is one of the best ways to learn a language. Campers of the same nationality are assigned to different cabins to ensure complete language immersion.
We also offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes which provide a unique and fun-filled contrast to regular classroom sessions.
