At the time, Mr. Lustig was a member of the Weequahic High School staff in Newark, New Jersey. He had a clear vision: to create a warm, welcoming summer camp where children could grow, explore, and make lasting memories.To bring that vision to life, he searched for the perfect camp setting. Eventually, he found a beautiful property by Sly Lake, a location that offered the natural beauty, space, and peaceful atmosphere he had imagined. It was the ideal place for a traditional overnight camp.A Northeast Summer Camp Built on TraditionFrom 1953 through the 2008 season, members of the Lustig family directed Camp Weequahic. During those decades, the camp became known for its caring community, excellent facilities, creative activities, and beautiful lakefront setting.Families throughout the Northeast were drawn to Weequahic because it offered more than a summer away from home. It gave campers a place to build confidence, form friendships, and enjoy the best parts of camp life.
