Camp Med-o-lark is looking for energetic, creative, and responsible counselors who want to be fully involved in camp life while also sharing a skill, hobby, or area of interest with campers.
This is a dual-role position. General Counselors live with and supervise a cabin group, helping campers through the daily routine and building strong relationships throughout the summer. During activity periods, counselors also spend time assisting with or teaching in a specialty program area that matches their experience and interests.
You do not need to be a professional instructor in your specialty. For many areas, enthusiasm, practical experience, and the ability to teach beginners are just as important. We are looking for people who enjoy working with children, are willing to jump into camp life, and have something they are excited to share.
Counselor responsibilities
- Live in a cabin with campers and help create a positive, supportive cabin community
- Help campers with wake-up, meals, clean-up, transitions, bedtime, and other parts of the daily routine
- Supervise campers during activities, meals, special events, and evening programs
- Encourage campers to try new things, make friends, and become more independent
- Work closely with co-counselors and camp leadership
- Serve as a positive and dependable role model throughout the summer
Specialty area responsibilities
During activity periods, you may teach, assist with, or help lead a program area based on your skills and experience.
Possible specialty areas include:
- Basketry and weaving
- Beading
- Blacksmithing
- Ceramics and pottery
- Enameling
- Culinary arts
- Fabric and textile arts
- Glassworking and lampworking
- Leatherworking
- Metal smithing and metal jewelry
- Stained glass
- Stone carving
- Woodworking
- Candle and wax arts
- Graphic arts
- Silk painting
- 3D printing and modeling
- Video game design and development
- Virtual reality
- Podcasting
- Filmmaking
- Digital photography
- Black-and-white film photography
- Dance
- Music and production
Depending on the activity, counselors may demonstrate basic techniques, help campers work on individual projects, assist more experienced instructors, manage supplies, and help keep activity spaces organized and safe.
What we’re looking for
Strong candidates should enjoy working closely with children and be ready to take an active role in the camp community. You should be patient, flexible, dependable, and comfortable working as part of a team.
Experience in at least one specialty area is strongly encouraged, but the level of experience needed will depend on the activity. Some positions may be appropriate for someone with professional or college-level experience, while others are a good fit for someone who has developed a skill through classes, clubs, personal projects, or a serious hobby.
This role gives you the chance to spend the summer working directly with campers, build leadership and teaching experience, and share a creative or technical skill that you already enjoy.
